3 month state of Emergency delared in Bahrain

3/16/2011 11:27:36 AM

State of Emergency called

On 15 March, the Government of Bahrain declared a three month state of emergency. Following an increase in protests over recent days, confrontations between protestors and police, and the intervention of security forces, we continue to advise British Nationals currently in Bahrain to remain at home until further notice.

If you wish to leave, we advise you to prepare for your departure and to check our Travel Advice regularly for our latest assessment of the situation. The risk of continued outbreaks of violence is ongoing and the security situation remains uncertain.

The British Embassy in Bahrain is closed until further notice.
